Winter skin: keeping that glow through colder months…

15 January, 2021

Winter is such an amazing time of year, especially if you’re a ‘snow lover’!

But cold weather is harsh on our skin. Colder temperatures and low humidity levels can draw moisture away from the skin, leaving it dry and cracked, especially if you have a skin condition such as eczema or psoriasis. And ‘notching up’ our indoor heating can make matters even worse.

There are a few ways that we can give our skin a little extra TLC during the colder months…

  • Drink plenty of water! We tend to drink less water when it’s colder, so this can lead to dehydration. Try aiming for 8 glasses every day.
  • Avoid using skin products and soaps that will dry your skin out further.
  • Choose a winter moisturiser for your skin. The one that you use during the summer months may not cut it when it’s cold outside. If your skin is severely dry, try using an emollient moisturiser that locks in moisture, followed by your standard moisturiser on top.
  • Never, EVER, forget sunscreen. Always use an SPF on your skin. Even when the temperatures are below zero, we need to protect our skin from the sun’s harmful rays. Apply to your face and hands (if they are exposed to daylight) at least 30 minutes before you head outside and take extra so that you can reapply if you are outside for an extended period of time.
  • Avoid taking long, hot showers and baths! They may feel great (especially when it’s cold outside), but they can remove essential oils from your skin. Instead try taking warm baths and showers, and using only tepid water when cleansing your face.
  • Take a good supplement for your skin with collagen and hyaluronic acid to boost your skin’s moisture levels. Taking DermaShotz daily with its formulation of Hydrolysed Marine Collagen Peptides, Hyaluronic Acid and a full spectrum of vitamins and minerals will give your skin a much needed surge of hydration!
